Mark Baxter White, a former English teacher and librarian in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, received a two-year sentence on Thursday for making and distributing child pornography and luring a child.

White was charged in 2010. He pleaded guilty in June 2012 and was soon fired from his job at Mealy Mountain Collegiate by the Labrador District School Board.

In addition to jail time Stack said White must forfeit the computers connected to the case and have his name placed on the national sex offender registry for life.

Earlier in the process Judge Robert Stack said he couldn't hand down a sentence until he personally saw the materials involved.

While an unusual request, police supported Stack's actions, saying judges should look at pornographic evidence before deciding on a sentence.

Child luring

The child luring charge involved White making a 45-minute webcam video of a teenage girl in Washington D.C. in 2009.

White had pretended to be a teenage girl when he created a profile on the website Stickam. He used the site to contact a 16-year-old girl south of the border.

They chatted on MSN, and he tried to convince her to change clothes for him on her webcam.

When she said no, he threatened to post photos of her face on a naked woman's body.

The girl relented, and masturbated before the camera and used sex toys, all while White made a video recording.

The girl went to the police.

The next time White opened a chat conversation, a Washington detective was on the other end of the line.

White tried to convince her to go on webcam again, saying if she didn't he'd post the video of her on the internet.
