The town of Conception Bay South thinks it is about time to spruce up its main street, and is trying to figure out how to do it.
Mayor Woodrow French said council wants to make the town more appealing to people looking to move in.
"One of the things that we want to identify in our town is a main section of the town," French said.
"Once we do that, and we've pretty well done it, we want to do some cosmetic touches to it to make it more presentable as a place where married couples and seniors want to come and spend some time."
The town has been utilizing various social media tools to get the public engaged in sharing what they feel will revamp C.B.S.
"We're hoping it will generate interest in our main street program and get people to come out and support it," French said.
Resident Jeff Neville said the town should focus on being more pedestrian-friendly.—"Crosswalks wouldn't hurt, and walkways, for sure, because there's nowhere to walk there now," Neville said. "Especially if you're taking a dog or anything for a trot, you've got to take the back roads."
Mike Hogan agrees that crosswalks would be a big draw.
"Sidewalks, basically, the more the better and crosswalks," Hogan said. "There's a lot of people trying to cross this street on a four-lane highway — what do you expect?"
French said the town will be trying to promote itself as a walking trail community, so expect more pedestrian focused development.
He said that plans should be ready for review in the summer.
