A garage in St. John's could not be saved after it became engulfed in flames on Saturday afternoon.
Emergency responders received calls about smoke at a residence on Thorburn Road at approximately 12 p.m.
St. John's Regional Fire Department Superintendent Don Byrne said there were explosions that took place in the garage before responders arrived on the scene.
"We don't know yet if that was indeed oxygen, acetylene, or whatever. That will be determined through further investigation," Byrne said.
The adjacent house was saved, with the exception of some damage to its siding. A vehicle on the property was also undamaged.
No one was hurt in the incident.
