Province getting rid of ferry Nonia

The provincial government announced on Friday it will decommission and sell the MV Nonia, rather than spend millions more to repair the vessel.
The province purchased the Estonian-built ship for just over $1 million in 1999. Since then, about $18 million has been spent to keep it afloat.
The vessel has been plagued by problems — including a foreign-language instruction manual that crews couldn't decipher.
Further repairs to the ship would cost the province another $9 million, which prompted the decision to remove it from the provincial fleet.
MV Nonia has been used throughout the province, but in recent years it has been a mainstay on the run between Bell Island and Portugal Cove.
