Addiction centre reopens following toxicology results

Eastern Health has reopened its addiction recovery centre in the Pleasantville area of St. John's, following analysis of a recent toxicology report.
The building was closed in December after employees complained about the smell of creosote – a coal-based preservative used by the American military when it constructed the building more than 60 years ago.
The health authority hired an occupational medical specialist in Ontario to review the results of tests conducted at the centre.
He concluded there was no health risk, but some of the odours are irritating.
The report includes recommendations for improving ventilation and keeping the offending smells out of work areas.
The recovery centre was moved to the Waterford hospital during the toxicology review.
