Bat-wielding robber gets wish for federal time

A man who held up a gas station in St. John's last year has been sentenced to more than two years in prison for the armed robbery, as well as other offences.
Curtis Hickey, 23, robbed an Ultramar station in December, and threatened a clerk with a bat.
Hickey pleaded guilty to the robbery, as well as to stealing liquor from two NLC outlets. He also pleaded guilty to uttering threats and other charges.
Hickey asked for and was given federal time to help him with a drug addiction, and to further his education.
