A pair of Liberal MPs have confirmed they are interested in seeking the leadership of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Scott Simms, the MP for Bonavista-Gander-Grand Falls-Windsor, confirmed a CBC report that he is meeting with party organizers this week to consider a leadership bid.
Simms, who once said he wasn't interested in the provincial Liberal leadership, told reporters in Ottawa he is considering the offer.
"No, I'm not ruling it out, no," said Simms. "I can definitively say that ... if that's a definitive statement. I'm not ruling it out."
"Right now, it's just a conversation. That's simply all it is. We'll see where it goes from there."
Byrne in the mix
Gerry Byrne, the MP for Humber-St. Barbe-Baie Verte, said he's having a similar conversation.

"To be a leader of your own provincial party would be quite a career topper, so I make no bones about it, and I haven't for many, many, many months," Byrne continued. "It would be a real privilege to serve as the leader of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador. But I have not yet made that decision."
Byrne said he will make up his mind some time in the next few weeks.
