Well-known Canadian singer-songwriter Dan Hill played a mini-concert on Friday at Daffodil Place in St. John's for patients receiving cancer treatment.

The centre provides patients from out of town with somewhere to stay while they receive their treatments in the city.

Hill was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2011, and has since beaten the disease.

"I feel that because men are more reluctant to talk about health matters, especially thinks like prostates, the job for someone like me is to get that out in the open and to wipe away all the squeamishness," he said.

"The more we are aware of prostate cancer, the more we get to it faster."

Hill was also the headliner at a benefit concert for prostate cancer on Friday night at the Delta Hotel in downtown St. John's.
