The SPCA in Happy Valley-Goose Bay is overwhelmed with unwanted puppies.

Shelter spokesperson Bonnie Learning said the pups are coming from north coast communites. Learning said there's not enough foster families or space at the shelter to house the dogs.

"If we don't start getting new fosters on board, the sad reality is we're going to have to start euthanizing litters of puppies that we get because we just don't have anywhere to place them," said Learning.

She added part of the problem is that it's difficult to get animals spayed and neutered in northern communities.
