The Newfoundland and Labrador government has given up on reaching a deal with Peter Kiewit International to build new provincial ferries, so now it's opening bids for competition.
The contracts include the construction of a "swing" vessel and a new ferry for Fogo Island and Change Islands.
The provincial government spent months trying to reach a deal with Kiewit to build the ferries at its Marystown facility.
Kiewit can still submit a bid on the re-issued contracts.
The province has said it's also looking for proposals to build a new ferry for the Strait of Belle Isle and coastal Labrador.
The 15-year ferry contracts won't start until April 1st, 2016.
