Bill Dormody, one of the principals behind a contracting company that's left a trail of unfinished work and unhappy people in western Labrador, says customers will get their money back next week.

Dormody has declined to do interviews with CBC, but in a voice mail message Wednesday evening he said he was in the process of getting a loan, and will go to Labrador City next week to pay back any money owed.

"I have done nothing wrong, and these people deserve their money, and they're going to get their money," Dormody says in the voice mail message.

"And it looks as though I'll have confirmation, I have it this evening, but I won't have it in writing until tomorrow, that I have the money to go in and pay back the ones who I owe the money to."

Took payments, work unfinished

Dormody is one of the principals behind ADDAHome Development Inc., a home renovation company. ADDAHome was the business that went into Labrador City this past spring to take on renovation projects, and in some cases took payments from homeowners but didn't finish the work.

Homeowners in Labrador City and Wabush told CBC they paid tens of thousands of dollars up front for work that was never finished.

Dormody has had a history of not paying bills. He and his wife both filed for bankruptcy in 1998, and Dormody filed for bankruptcy again in 2002 with debt of $480,000.

ADDAHome is also facing five lawsuits that seek more than $400,000 in connection with unpaid bills linked to an adult-living community in Grand Falls-Windsor called Parkview Village.

RNC investigating

The RNC revealed on Wednesday that it has launched a fraud investigation into the business activities of ADDAHome Development, after police heard homeowners in western Labrador tell their stories to the CBC.

Dormody also said he has explained his side of the story to the RNC.

"I didn't run from nothing. I spoke to the police myself, and I told them what I had done and what I'm doing."
