It is still unclear when the cleanup at the Grand Falls-Windsor paper mill site will begin.

The province lost its case against AbitibiBowater and has been made responsible for the environmental damages.

Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Hedderson says the next step is to conduct tests on soil samples and assess the buildings.

However, Hedderson said a full remediation may not be necessary if another industrial business is interested in the property.

"If that's to remain an industrial site, there probably would be very little in the way of cleanup except to go in and make sure it's a safe working area," Hedderson said.

The provincial government has not said who may be interested in taking over the site.
