What was thought to be a bomb at Deer Lake Regional Airport turned out to be just an ill-advised fashion statement.

The baggage-screening area at the airport in western Newfoundland was evacuated in mid-October after security found what they feared was a hand grenade in someone's luggage.

Police were called, and emergency vehicles were on standby, as the item was removed and taken to the local fire hall.

An official report classified the incident as a possible bomb threat, sabotage or hijacking.

In the end, the object officials feared was a bomb was actually just a grenade-shaped belt buckle.
