An RCMP officer is being credited with saving a life in central Labrador on Monday night, after a man eating a cookie found himself choking.

Police say they responded to a report of the choking man shortly before 9 p.m.

It took several thrusts with the Heimlich manoeuvre before the Mountie was able to clear the man's airway.

In a statement, the RCMP said the choking man, 27, was fine and "thankful for the quick action of police."
