A St. John's councillor says there's a dire need for more neighbourhood watch groups in the city.
Sheilagh O'Leary made the comments following a big drug bust Tuesday in a quiet Paradise neighbourhood.
Police arrested Louis Trung Huynh, 22, in the Elizabeth Park neighbourhood of Paradise after finding about 87 pounds of marijuana in a basement apartment there.
The RNC says the size of the stash indicates organized crime was involved.
This prompted O'Leary to say the city could use the help of more neighbourhood watch groups.
"It is not a vigilante organization," she said.
"It's basically for people to find out how they can communicate with their neighbours about ongoing issues in the neighbourhood. It fosters great neighbourhood relationships, and it makes your neighbourhood safer. And it totally works."
O'Leary said interested residents can contact the city to arrange a presentation by its neighbourhood watch co-ordinator.
