Corner Brook suburb gets traffic light

Massey Drive is about to get its first traffic light to help keep pedestrians in the area safe.
The solar-powered stop light will be installed at a crosswalk on the main drag through the Corner Brook suburb by the end of the year.
The dangerous stretch of road is on a steep hill and was recently paved. Speedy drivers have become an issue for people trying to safely cross the street.
Mayor Gord Davis said the light is long overdue.
"We've had quite a bit of trouble of course with traffic and speeders coming through this part of the town," he said.
"It's a danger area because of where the dip is here in the hill, and the kids haven't been able to get across the road."
Davis said the RCMP have stepped up enforcement in the area.
"They've made an extra effort in the last few weeks to try and calm down our speeders, and within the last two-and-a-half [to] three week period, [they've issued] an estimate of, so far, 60 or 70 tickets," he said.
