It looks like the bond between musician Alan Doyle of Great Big Sea and Hollywood A-list actor Russell Crowe continues to deepen.
Doyle and Crowe have worked together several times in the past year, co-starring in the feature film Robin Hood and again on the CBC television show, Republic of Doyle, which stars another guy-pal of theirs, Allan Hawco.
On Wednesday, Doyle was tweeting about the part he’s playing in Crowe’s new movie, Winter’s Tale, which also features big names like Will Smith, Colin Farrell, William Hurt and Jennifer Connelly.
"One day done on set of a film called Winter's Tale,” Doyle tweeted on Wednesday. “I've been cast as a thief, Dingy. In some serious company. What a thrill."
Doyle also announced on Twitter that he’ll be on-set in New York City for the next few weeks, calling himself a “lucky bastard.”
Set in 19th century and present-day Manhattan, the movie is a fantasy about an encounter between a thief (Farrell), a young girl who is dying (Jessica Brown Findlay) and a horse that can fly.
Written and directed by Akiva Goldsman, the film is based on Mark Helprin’s novel of the same name and is slotted for release in 2013.
Doyle and Crowe have also been collaborating musically lately, appearing together on stage at a pub in St. John's, N.L. and more recently with Sting at a party in New York City in October.
