The St. John's IceCaps will wear special edition blue, white and camouflage jerseys when they face off against the Albany Devils as part of the team's military appreciation night.

IceCaps head coach Keith McCambridge said the team was on the road for Remembrance Day, but they did not want to let the occasion pass without paying respects to the men and women who sacrificed so much.

"It's an honour to be able to show our appreciation tonight," McCambridge said.

Inconsistent play

The IceCaps play their next six games at Mile One Centre following a six-game road trip.

"We came out of the road trip with two wins and three losses," said Jason Jaffray, captain of the IceCaps. "I think we've been an inconsistent team over the last few games."

Jaffray blames some of the inconsistency on the NHL lockout. The team has been balancing ice time for NHL players who have moved to the IceCaps from the parent Winnipeg Jets.

"We've got great players that are sitting out. I think our fifth line in practice today is Gregoire, Gagnon and King," said Jaffray. "Three great players that could be in any lineup on any team, but it's just a matter of numbers and the veteran situation."

'Bit of a show' planned

Friday's game is the first meeting between the IceCaps and the Albany Devils, the only team that ranks below the IceCaps in goals per game.

Asked if the camouflage jerseys might help blindside the Devils, Jaffray replied with a laugh, "I hope so."

"I hope we come out with a lot of goals here tonight, and I hope we get the fans involved early and put on a little bit of a show."

About 50 Canadian Forces members plan to be in the stands and in uniform for Friday night's game.

Several are also expected to play a role in the game's opening ceremony, with Brig.-Gen. Tony Stack dropping the ceremonial first puck.
