Police in Corner Brook charged two teenage boys over the weekend with stealing a car and then taking it on a joyride that ended in a ditch near the Trans-Canada Highway.

One of the boys, who are both 16, is expected to appear in court in Corner Brook Monday. The other will appear in court at a later date. Between them, they face charges that include theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and possession of property obtained by crime.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary was told around 2 a.m. Saturday that a 2009 Camry had been found in a ditch near Riverside Drive and the TCH.

Police said while there were no suspects on the scene, blood was found in the vehicle, which "caused concern to police that someone may have been injured during the incident."

A search involving a police dog did not lead to anything.

Later Saturday, police learned that the car had been stolen from a driveway on West Valley Road, and that another parked car had been struck during the theft.

Police found the suspects later, with one of them remanded until at least Monday's appearance. The other was released to his parents.

Police said more charges may be laid.
