A Conception Bay South woman has been sent to jail for committing fraud, with her own boyfriend among her victims.
Katherine Fagan, 39, who lives in the Kelligrews area of C.B.S., was given a nine-month sentence during a hearing Wednesday at provincial court in St. John's.
Court was told that Fagan had defrauded her former boyfriend and several credit card companies of almost $22,000.
Fagan, who had a prior conviction for defrauding a former employer of about $21,000, had falsely obtained the cards in her partner's name.
Fagan had pleaded guilty to seven fraud-related charges.
Her lawyer had asked for 18 months of house arrest to be the key element of her sentence, while the Crown had asked for a year in jail, as well as restitution and probation.
Judge Mike Madden noted that Fagan is remorseful, pleaded guilty and is getting counselling.
However, he also noted that while Fagan was paying money back to her former employer, she was defrauding her former boyfriend and the credit card companies.
"She has made it clear that the prior conditional sentence [which involved house arrest] did not deter her," Madden said.
"I find it particularly aggravating that the offences were committed while she was already serving a sentence for similar offences," he said.
Fagan, who must continue to pay back money to her former employer, must also pay back what she owes to her former boyfriend and the credit card companies.
When she is out of jail, she will be on probation for one year.
