There were some gruesome sights in St. John's Saturday afternoon, as the third annual Zombie Walk took over some city streets.

More than fifty people exposed their inner zombie during this day of the living dead, which kicked off at Bannerman Park.

The walks are an increasingly popular Halloween happening, being held in cities all over North America.

Organizer Emma Young offered some tips for aspiring zombies.

It takes more than a costume, she says. To be truly convincing, you must embrace the role.

"It kind of puts you in a different mindset," said Young, "especially when you're in such a big group. If you're all together and you're acting like a zombie, it's really all you think about."

She said startling onlookers is a spooky thrill.

"When people see you and they're not dressed up, they're a little bit taken aback by you," she said.

"It just kind of takes over."

Young says the event keeps growing, with Saturday's turnout being more than twice as big as last year's.
