A Labrador MHA says he's not surprised Peter Penashue overspent so heavily on his election campaign.

Liberal Randy Edmunds says travelling by plane throughout the Big Land can get costly in a hurry, so the trick is to use other means of transportation.

"In my case, travelling by speed boat is cost-effective," said Edmunds.

"But if you're chartering airplanes and you're getting on airplanes, going from place to place in northern Labrador, it doesn't take long to add up."

CBC News revealed this week that Penashue spent almost $25,000 on flights during his campaign.

Provincial Airlines wrote most of it off.

Penashue spent a total of more than $17,000 above the spending limit during last year's federal election.
