A man was critically injured in an industrial accident Wednesday in Conception Bay.

Two men, aged 51 and 48, were changing a tire on a crane around 5 p.m. at the Moor Frost cold storage facility next to the harbour in Bay Roberts, when the tire blew off the rim.

Both men were rushed to hospital, RCMP said. The older man suffered the most serious injuries.

Occupational health and safety officials were investigating the scene late into the night.

This is the second serious workplace incident at the facility in the past 15 months.

In July 2011, an 18-year-old man was struck in the head by a block of frozen fish while he was offloading a vessel. He's still recovering from the incident.
