Police now believe there was no foul play involved in the death of a woman in Paradise this summer.
The body of Patricia Rice, 53, was found in a field off Topsail Road on July 25.
The RNC had been treating the death as a homicide, scouring the field for evidence, and investigating many people, including Rice's boyfriend, George Carberry.
He told CBC he was with Rice the night she disappeared but didn't know what happened to her.
But on Thursday, police said lab results have suggested that Rice's death was not a homicide.
"Based on additional information that we've received from the medical examiner's office, we've now come to the conclusion that this matter was not a homicide, and it's now deemed a sudden death," said RNC deputy chief Bill Janes.
Janes would not elaborate on why police initially thought Rice's death was a homicide or why investigators changed their minds.
