Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador won't be taking a stand on the Muskrat Falls project.

The group, which represents incorporated towns and cities in the province, met in Gander over the weekend for its annual convention.

MNL president Churence Rogers says having Premier Kathy Dunderdale speak at the convention was not a sign the group is backing the project.

Rogers says MNL simply wants its members to be informed.

"We don't intend to take any public position; that's not our responsibility, to arrange public debates or take public positiuons," Rogers said.

"All we did was, we wanted to make sure that our municipal leaders got proper, informed information."

There is expected to be a special debate in the house of assembly on the project later this fall.

The provincial government will then make a decision on whether to green light the multi-billion-dollar hydro generation plan.
