Airport strike causes another convention cancellation

Workers at St. John's International Airport have been on the picket line since Sept. 11. (CBC)The City of St. John's has lost another big convention because of the ongoing strike at the airport.
The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada said the decision to hold its annual meeting somewhere else follows its principles as a labour group.
The event, involving some 700 delegates, will instead be held in the Ottawa area.
The union cancelled now, even though the convention was scheduled for mid-November.
Nonetheless, the group said it wanted to stand in solidarity with the airport union.
About 85 service and maintenance workers at St. John's airport have been on strike since Sept. 11, with the main issue being wages.
