A food bank that's used to helping people in Conception Bay South and Paradise now needs help itself.

The owner of the building where the C.B.S./Paradise Community Food Bank rents space wants the organization to clear out so he can expand his own business.

The move was originally set for the spring of 2013, but a few days ago the food bank received notice that the date had been pushed up to the end of this year.

"It's a terrible time," said Peter Wells, chairman of the food bank, who said this is one of the busiest seasons for the charity.

"Right now all the schools and churches are doing a food drive so we'll have massive food come in Friday that we'll have to pack up and move out. As well, we're trying to get our Christmas hampers and put all that together."

Wells says the kind of space the bank needs is hard to find in C.B.S. One option is to team up with another organization and move into a larger building. The local Salvation Army could be a good fit, as their thrift store recently became homeless as well.

The C.B.S./Paradise Community Food Bank is a consolidation of at least 10 previous banks run by various churches and organizations.

About 600 low-income families and seniors make regular use of it.
