Elderly bicyclist killed by mail van

Google MapsA man riding a bicycle in a small town in eastern Newfoundland was killed when he was struck by a mail delivery van, police say.
The man, 78, was riding on the main road in Grates Cove — on the northernmost tip of the Avalon Peninsula — on Monday afternoon when the collision happened.
RCMP said the man was making a turn in the road when he was struck by a mail delivery van.
"The victim succumbed to his injuries while on-scene," police said in a statement.
"Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in this collision."
RCMP are investigating the incident.
