A 30-year-old man was in jail Friday morning after crashing his car in the Curling area of Corner Brook, with police alleging he was drunk behind the wheel.

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers found the vehicle about 15 metres down an embankment, near the intersection of Lewin Parkway and Curling Street, following a call around 12:30 a.m.

However, the driver was gone.

The RNC used a police dog to help find the man, and credited help from the public with locating him. He was walking along Griffin Drive, which follows the shore of Humber Arm.

The man faces charges of impaired driving, failing a breathalyzer and six counts of breaching court orders.

He's also been ticketed for driving an unregistered vehicle without a licence or insurance.
