A 28-year-old woman allegedly stole a taxi and hit two people, leaving one man with serious injuries.

The incident happened around 7 a.m. Saturday, near Barter's Hill in St. John's.

According to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, the woman first hit the taxi driver who was standing next to the vehicle that was being stolen.

After driving a short distance, she then struck a second man.

The taxi driver was released from hospital, but the other man remains with serious injuries.

Police say the woman was arrested at the scene.

A number of charges are pending, including theft of a vehicle and impaired driving causing bodily harm.
