The Newfoundland boy who gave the Canadian men's relay team his only medal now has a new one of his own, and a new bicycle.

Yesterday, Tim Hortons gave 10-year-old Elijah Porter, from Paradise, a new medal to replace the TimBits soccer medal he gave the sprinters who were denied the bronze at the Olympic Games in London.

Porter reached out to the men's 4x100-metre running relay team after it was disqualified when one of its members stepped out of bounds.The Canadian coffee giant gave him a bike as well.

The bicycle is a little big for him now, but Porter says he'll grow into it.

Last week, Porter was presented with a certificate from the town during Tuesday's council meeting. He also got to sit in Paradise Mayor Ralph Wiseman's chair and try on Wiseman's chains of office.

He says he's now aware of the world-wide attention he’s received because of what he did.

"I thought there'd be just like a little newspaper thing but there's word from Australia, word from India — everywhere,” Elijah said.

P.E.I.'s Jared Connaughton said Porter has a "heart of gold" for by giving the team his only ever sports medal.

Connaughton said getting this support means a lot to the team, and it's a great example to set for other kids.
