The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating the theft of 11 kilograms of dynamite and 35 detonators from a business on Topsail Road in Paradise.
RNC Const. Talia Murphy said the theft took place sometime between 6 p.m. on Monday and 9 a.m. Tuesday.
The dynamite is used in construction and industrial blasting.
Murphy said police consider the theft a concern for both the public and the suspected thieves.
"The RNC is concerned for the safety of the individuals who stole this as it is a dangerous substance to steal," said Murphy.
Murphy said investigators are still on the scene of the crime.
Murphy is asking anyone who might have information about the theft to call the RNC or its Crime Stoppers phone line.
