Marine Atlantic is cancelling ferry crossings between Argentia and North Sydney on Monday and Tuesday.

The MV Highlanders is out of service with a generator problem and weather delays have made it difficult for sailing to get back on schedule.

Spokesperson Darrell Mercer said by cancelling crossings, the company should be able catch up on their service delays.

"We have been forced to cancel the Argentia-North Sydney crossing, the Monday crossing out of North Sydney to Argentia and the Tuesday crossing from Argentia to North Sydney," he said.

"By doing that and moving the Atlantic Vision to the Port aux Basques-North Sydney crossing we'll be able to transport 2000 extra vehicles between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia during the same time frame."

Mercer said people can expect delays in service for several more days.

Mercer says passengers who were previously booked through Argentia will be offered a number of options.

If customers want to go though Port aux Basques, they can be re-booked.

Marine Atlantic is offering $200 vouchers for adults and $100 vouchers for children between five and twelve years of age for passengers who want to wait and cross when service resumes.

Passengers without a vehicle can submit a receipt and will be reimbursed in the mail.

"We are booking our passengers to crossings that are close as possible to their original sailing times, so we are making progress, but we do recognize there are challenges and our customers are being inconvenienced," said Mercer.
