Police have arrested a 32-year-old Victoria man in relation to the alleged assault of a fish and wildlife enforcement officer Wednesday.

He has since been released from custody, and is scheduled to appear in provincial court in November.

The RCMP did not release the man's name.

On Wednesday morning, the wildlife officer confronted a poacher in Salmon Cove. That's when the alleged assault took place.

The incident saw the officer dragged behind an ATV for a distance. It’s not known how far.

The wildlife officer was taken to hospital and treated. He was released later the same day.

Surveillance at the scene began Tuesday after officers learned poachers' nets were in the area.

Police indicated Wednesday they had a photo of the suspect, but have not released that image to the news media.
