Two cars collided early Friday at the intersection of Brodie Street and Mount Carson Avenue. (Adam Walsh/CBC)A woman was charged with impaired driving after a collision in a Mount Pearl suburb early Friday morning.
Two cars collided at the intersection of Mount Carson Avenue and Brodie Street around 3 a.m.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said the woman initially left the scene, but returned.
One person was sent to hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.
Rhonda McMeekin, who lives five houses down from the scene of the collision, said she was startled by the noise even though she is hearing impaired.
"I heard this loud screech of tires, then a huge bang and then a pop and then I heard people screaming," McMeekin told CBC News.
"So I hopped out of bed and ran out and I could see that a whole bunch of neighbours had kind of congregated on the corner of the street, and there was a car with the front end gone off of it."
Police described the damage to both vehicles as moderate.
The collision also damaged a street sign and a homeowner's fence.
Meanwhile, a marked RNC vehicle was involved in a separate collision in Mount Pearl, on Sagona Avenue on Thursday afternoon.
The RNC says the police car sustained "extensive damage" while the other vehicle had minor damage. One driver was treated for minor injuries. Other details were not released.
