The town of Harbour Grace is having trouble convincing nearby towns to help pay for a new arena.

Mayor Don Coombs said it only makes sense for communities in the region to share the cost of the proposed $21-million facility. Conception Bay North is one community near Harbour Grace that is looking for new ice space.

Coombs said there is interest from some towns to pitch in, but said the town of Bay Roberts for example, would only contribute cash if the arena was built in their town.

"Our discussion with the other municipalities was you know, we're interested in coming on board if we're on board from the opening face-off," said Coombs.

"Unfortunately, I guess some municipalities in the area feel the definition of a regional facility is it has to be in their town, and that's unfortunate."

Bay Roberts Mayor Phillip Wood said there should have been a feasibility study done before it was decided the arena would be built in Harbour Grace.
