Some people on the Northern Peninsula are frustrated about losing their local CBC Television programming.

CBC shut off its analog transmitters this week, a year earlier than originally planned as a cost-saving measure.

Cable provider Eastlink said it can't broadcast CBC Newfoundland and Labrador because of technological issues. That means some of Eastlink's customers are receiving the CBC signal from Nova Scotia instead.

"They're angry, they're angry at the cable provider, and they're also angry at CBC for inadvertently taking down the system a year earlier than they had planned to," said Hawke's Bay Mayor Lloyd Bennett.

Bennett said people are also upset because the town doesn't have high-speed internet access so people can't watch their programs online.

Eastlink has declined several interview requests by CBC Newfoundland and Labrador on the matter.

Bennett said he's already complained to Eastlink.

He said he is also filing a formal complaint with the CRTC, arguing the CBC is not fulfilling its mandate

Eastlink has not officially provided CBC with a full list of communities who have had their analogue transmitters shut off.
