The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says foul play is not suspected after a man's body was found in the water at Petty Harbour.
Police received a phone call about the body just before 7:30 a.m. Monday.
Residents of Petty Harbour assisted police officers, providing a fishing boat to retrieve the body and gather evidence from around the dock.
A man at the scene says the deceased was a close friend, and was drinking heavily Sunday.
The man says his friend decided to go to Petty Harbour. The man told him not to, saying he was too drunk to go off on his own. The man says he doesn't know what happened after that.
Bottles of liquor were found at the scene.
The RNC is working to notify the next of kin.
The police investigation is ongoing.
