Cable provider Eastlink is encouraging the CBC not to shut down its analogue television transmitters in Newfoundland and Labrador because the shutdown could leave some Eastlink customers without local CBC television programming.
CBC has said it will end its analogue transmissions across the country on July 31.
At that time, Eastlink customers who do not have a fibre cable link, such as those along the Northern Peninsula and the south coast of Labrador, will be at risk of losing local CBC television shows such as Here & Now and Land and Sea.
The CBC has said those viewers will receive news and programming from CBC Nova Scotia.
The CBC had been mandated to shut down its analogue transmitters next year, but the shutdown has been moved up to next week to save $10 million.
Eastlink and the CBC have been working to find a solution before the shutdown happens on Tuesday.
