Pre-fabricated metal is scattered around a tractor trailer near Corner Brook, that according to a witness was 'flying in the air'. (Submitted by Keith Parsons)
There was a spectacular crash on the Trans-Canada Highway just outside Corner Brook Friday afternoon.
A tractor-trailer loaded with a pre-fabricated metal building and a construction vehicle lost control and flew down over a steep embankment, resulting in the cargo scattering all around the tractor-trailer.
The accident happened just after one p.m.
“It was the sort of thing you only see in the movies,” said Wayne Green who was working on a golf course at the foot of the embankment and saw the vehicles collided.
“First I heard a bang,” he said. “And then I saw this tractor-trailer coming over.”
“She was flying through the air and then she hit that rock on the way down. And then when she hit the bottom, her load popped up in the air and then I seen the dust.”
Green said he was concerned the truck would hit a power line affecting the mill in Corner Brook.
The driver was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.
