St. John's native Teddy Purcell will be staying with the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning for a while.
The team announced Tuesday it has reached an agreement with the winger on a three-year extension to his contract, taking him through the 2015-16 season.
Financial details of the extension were not released.
Purcell had a breakout year with Tampa Bay last season, scoring a career-high 24 goals and 65 points.
Originally undrafted out of the University of Maine, Purcell was signed by the Los Angeles Kings as a free agent in 2007.
He joined the Lightning in a 2010 trade.
Purcell has appeared in 272 career NHL games, tallying 52 goals and 150 points.
He represented Canada at the 2012 IIHF World Championships, registering a goal and two points in eight games.
