Four people were rescued at sea after a fishing vessel reported an emergency early Saturday morning off the East Coast of Newfoundland.

Search and Rescue officials in Halifax said the crew of the Nautical Horizon reported the boat was taking on water about 8:00 a.m. Saturday.

The coast guard auxiliary vessel Emerald Explorer picked them up.

The four people are reported to be in good condition.

The incident happened about 70 kilometres East of St. John's.

Search and Rescue was unable to confirm whether or not the Nautical Horizon sank.
