Forestry crews, local fire departments and water bombers have been continuing to fight a forest fire on the west coast of Newfoundland, north of Wheeler's River, on the west side of the Trans-Canada Highway near the Burgeo Highway.
RCMP have evacuated cabins and camper trailers in the area.
Although the Trans-Canada Highway is open, RCMP have asked that people stay out of the area.
Fire moving quickly
Ken MacDonald of Kippens, Newfoundland was observing the fire from a hill about a kilometre away.
MacDonald said the fire spanned about two kilometres, and was moving fairly fast.
"It's very dry and it's really warm today," noted MacDonald.
He added that the fire had already engulfed one transmission line leading to Stephenville and nearby communities, and was less than 500 metres from another transmission line.
Forestry officials said the fire, which broke out about 3:30 p.m., is moving northwest and covers an area of about 40 hectares, but no communities are in danger.
