Marine Atlantic is aiming to have the North Sydney to Argentia ferry service back on the water by Wednesday night.
Trouble with the MV Atlantic Vision's starboard gearbox brought the run to a halt more than a week ago.
The replacement part needed for the vessel arrived in North Sydney Monday — two days later than expected. Technicians worked overnight to install it.
Marine Atlantic spokesperson Darrell Mercer said the company is hoping there won't be any more delays.
"Right now it's scheduled to return to service tomorrow evening out of North Sydney," Mercer told CBC News Tuesday morning.
"If everything goes according to plan today we should be able to do our sea trials and the vessel will be back in operation tomorrow."
Barring any further trouble, the Atlantic Vision is expected to arrive in Argentia on Thursday.
In the interim, Argentia customers have been offered the choice of free passes via Port aux Basques, or vouchers ($200 for each adult and $100 for each child) if they opt to wait for the Atlantic Vision to return to the water.
