Crews were keeping track Tuesday of three fires outside Happy Valley-Goose Bay, two of which authorities say were started by weekend lightning strikes.

The Department of Natural Resources said the lightning-connected fires are about 90 kilometres outside the town, and have burned about 400 hectares of land.

A third fire just outside Canadian Forces Base Goose Bay, and near the Trans-Labrador Highway, was being fought by a waterbomber on Tuesday afternoon.

Recent weather conditions have been dry and hot, with Tuesday's temperatures above 30 C.

The fires come on the heels of a major blaze last month at 5 Wing Goose Bay, which has yet to be completely put out.

That fire is still classified as under control, and crews are still checking for hot spots to ensure they do not flare up again.
