Police are warning of extremely windy conditions in the Wreckhouse area of Newfoundland's southwest coast. (Submitted by Nelson Bragg )The RCMP is advising motorists to stay off the Trans-Canada Highway in the Wreckhouse area of Newfoundland's southwest coast due to extremely high winds.
The advisory, issued late Friday afternoon, applies to the area between Codroy and Port aux Basques.
At last report around supper hour Friday, winds in the region were blowing at about 112 km/h.
They reached as high as 133 km/h earlier in the day.
An overturned transport truck was spotted near Campbell's Brook in the Wreckhouse area.
Police say drivers should check with Environment Canada for updates before taking to roads in the region.
