A town on the Northern Peninsula is trying to deal with its stray cat problem.

But the proposed solution in Woody Point has caught the attention of the online community.

The town posted a comment on its Facebook page to say it would be setting up live traps to eliminate the cat problem.

Mayor Ken Thomas says people shouldn't worry — the town isn't planning to put the cats down.

“When we put that announcement out on our Facebook, unfortunately our town manager probably used a little strong word when she used the word 'eliminate' — in actual fact we wanted to just really mitigate and control the situation,” Thomas said.

Thomas says any cats caught will be kept in a heated area at the local arena.

The town council will meet this coming Monday to figure out a long-term solution.
