They may not have been built for speed, but a number of bobsleds entered in Corner Brook's annual Winter Carnival definitely appealed to the eye.

Entries in Sunday's race emulated an old-fashioned model T, as well a "grader" that was entered by the city's public works department.

The winning entry turned out to be a pencil, or at least looked like one. Academy Canada's entry, dubbed "the Lead Sled," featured skis that were made in the welding shop and a sleigh manufactured by carpentry students.

"It was a good experience for the students. It was a good experience for everybody," said instructor Richard Crocker.
