RCMP in western Newfoundland say officers stopped a man for impaired driving for the third time in less than two months.

A Stephenville man, 38, was arrested on Valentine's Day in the Cornwall Heights neighbourhood.

RCMP said the same man had been stopped for erratic driving on Dec. 30, and was also charged Jan. 9, when his van was found in a snow bank.

"In all three cases, he provided breath samples in excess of three times the legal limit," RCMP said in a statement.

The same van was involved in all three cases. It has since been impounded.

The man was held in custody overnight and was expected to appear in provincial court in Stephenville on Thursday for a bail hearing.
