A man accused of murdering his former wife five years ago has again had a trial on lesser charges postponed.

While on bail last February, Ray Newman was charged with assault and uttering threats. He was supposed to stand trial last year.

His lawyers got a postponement, arguing that the assault trial could taint the jury for the murder trial.

But since the murder trial hasn't started yet, a judge has again agreed to postpone the assault trial until after the murder trial.

Jury selection for the murder trial is set for April 2.

Newman is alleged to have killed his former wife, Chrissy Predham Newman, in her St. John's apartment in January 2007.
